Landscape Gardening Example Projects

Driveway installation

What was the project?

This driveway in Tadley dated back to when the house was originally built. It was too narrow for some cars, so visitors ended up stepping out and walking in the mud to get to the house. The old concrete had also cracked in places, allowing weeds to grow through, and it was starting to look untidy.

The new design

Our client needed a driveway that was strong enough to withstand heavy vans using it, and he also wanted it to be easy to park on and walk to the front door in the dark. We decided the best plan would be to remove the existing drive and install a stronger sub-base with a gravel stabilisation grid and Cotswold chippings to finish. We designed the edges of the drive to be higher than the gravel to prevent any stones spreading out. We also installed a lighting system within the brick edging to light the way to the house. Our Client, Andy, can now control the lights from his phone and has set up a timer so they come on automatically when it gets dark.

What did the client think of the end result?

‘Outstanding workmanship. I was very impressed with John’s attention to detail and welcomed his advice and expertise. The site was kept clean and safe. Overall, we would highly recommend.’

Andrew Ratcliffe - Tadley

Artificial lawn and Patio installation

What was the project?

Mr & Mrs Bodington have a raised area in their back garden that is only accessible by a fairly steep set of steps. They had decided that they didn't want to have to keep lifting the lawnmower up the steps anymore so they opted to have artificial grass installed. They also wanted a new patio so that they could relax and enjoy the view over the adjacent field. We provided samples of artificial turf for Mr & Mrs Bodington to choose from, and they visited the paving supplier in Tadley to select the paving stones that they wanted to have.

What did the client think of the end result?

I am very pleased with the landscaping work completed by JRG Landscapes, and I will be using them again in the future.’

Mr Bodington - Basingstoke

Front garden re-landscape

What was the project?

Mr & Mrs Cornick wanted a low maintenance front garden that would be easy to keep looking smart. They also needed an extra car parking space and somewhere to keep the dustbins. We decided the best design would be to use heavy duty limestone paving and Cotswold chippings for the driveway. We also installed granite set brick edging to create an edge to the new lawn, and we planted box hedging and low maintenance plants within the border.

What did the clients think of the end result?

We are very pleased with the result of our front garden and we’ll be asking John to sort the back garden next.’

Mr & Mrs Cornick - Tadley

Patio Installation

What was the project?

Different parts of David’s garden had been landscaped at different times by previous owners of his house. Because lots of different materials had been used over the years, the garden was a bit of a mismatch of different styles. David wanted to add a sense of uniformity to the garden, and he also needed the size of the patio increased.

The new design

We used ‘Raj Green’ Indian sandstone paving and ‘Classic Storm’ sandstone sets for the brick edging. Once we had removed all of the old paving and gravel areas, we discovered an inspection chamber and a rodding point that had been buried by the previous homeowners. We installed paving infill trays in order to allow easy access to them if ever required. When the paving work was complete we decided the borders around the outside of the garden could do with updating so we added new plants and also installed a weed proof membrane and mulched the plant beds with a decorative gravel.

What did the client think of the end result?

‘JRG Landscapes have just completed extensive work on my back garden which involved the initial design work, removal of existing hard-standing areas, laying a new patio and brick border to the lawn, redefining the borders and levelling the lawn. The initial design evolved a couple of times during the process and John and I agreed the costs as this happened so the final bill was exactly as expected. The garden is really transformed and quality of the workmanship is excellent - John has an amazing attention to detail and I’m sure I’ll be admiring the finished result for many years to come.’
